  • Founded in 1963 by Phil Steinberg, who several years earlier played baseball for UCLA and the San Francisco Seals.

  • Entered into a joint venture with a major Japanese trading company in 1970.

  • Opened a Phoenix branch in the early 70s.

  • Moved its distribution and processing facility from Wilmington to Riverside, California, in 1990.

  • Became a major distributor of structurals in the late 90s

  • Purchased by Reliance Steel in early 2007
